Recap from May Happenings Community Meeting: Close Out to Mobility Enhancement District and possible Residential Permit Parking Changes Community Process

Our May Happenings Community Meeting was hosted on 5/11/2023 at 6:30 PM at Goodwill at 118 52nd St. The Happenings are the once monthly community meetings hosted by LU and LC on the second Thursdays of the month. This particular Happenings served as a close out meeting to a month’s long community process around a proposed Mobility Enhancement District (MED) and possible Residential Permit Parking (RPP) changes. There were approximately 20 people present in person and 8 people present over Facebook Live.

Sarah Trbovic, LC Executive Director, gave an overview of the meeting structure before and provided some expectation and value setting to ground the conversations. There was then a thorough review of the feedback provided throughout the community process presented by Sarah and Dave Breingan, LU Executive Director.

We received almost 200 feedback form responses that showed that the majority of respondents were for the proposed Mobility Enhancement District (~58%), and all wards were not highly interested in changes to Residential Parking Permits at this time. Central Lawrenceville above Butler St (where Residential Permit Parking already exists) did seem most open to the potential of hybrid parking zone (mixed Residential Permits and meters).

In terms of next steps, LU and LC have proposed that a parking study be conducted by the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) and that Councilwoman Gross hold a public forum at City Council prior to sending the Mobility Enhancement District ordinance to a vote. This forum will likely occur in June (please keep an eye out for updates!).

Below you will find the presentation linked, an FAQ about mobility, all anonymized feedback form responses, and videos of the presentation. If you have further questions or feedback, please contact info@lunited.org or 412-802-7220.
