Board Candidate Bio for Laura Bunting (2023)

Name: Laura Christa Bunting

Neighborhood: 9th Ward (Central Lawrenceville)

What years have you lived in Lawrenceville? Since the spring of 2018.

Why did you move to Lawrenceville? I purchased my first home in Lawrenceville due to its vibrant community, walkability, and history.

Current Job Title (if employed): Principal. Jackson Lewis P.C. I am an attorney representing companies with their employment law matters.

Why do you want to be on the LU Board? What would you like to work on within the neighborhood? Lawrenceville is both a destination for outsiders and a neighborhood that needs to meet its residents’ needs. My interest in board service stems from a desire to maintain what makes Lawrenceville special. while expanding the amenities and services available to residents.

Please list Volunteer, Non-Profit, or Board Experience: I have served in various leadership positions within the Allegheny County Bar Association, including chairing the 1,800 strong Young Lawyers Division. I am still active in the Federal Court Section. Additionally. I am currently on the boards of PICT (Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre) and POWER. During my free time, I volunteer for pro bona cases, including representing local non-profit organizations.

What makes Lawrenceville unique?  Why? Pittsburgh is unique in the diversity and character of its neighborhoods. Lawrenceville stands out from the group because it is well-positioned near thoroughfares through the city, the varied jobs available, including healthcare and tech, and the multiple types of new and historic architecture.

One of LU’s core values is equity and the organization has recently embraced anti-oppression trainings to support our work in this area. What’s one idea you have for how LU should live out its commitment to equity? LU could consider having a dedicated cohort of Lawrenceville businesses focused on DEL with suggested criteria for members. such as a handbook for employees prohibiting discrimination based on protected characteristics. I co-chaired a first of its kind program for the Allegheny County Bar Association that could lend itself well for LU’s equity goals.

How are you involved in the Lawrenceville community? I am involved in the community through supporting my neighbors in need, but am looking to become more involved in the neighborhood and its initiatives through LU.

What would you bring to the LU Board (e.g. experience, skills, perspective, network, etc.)? My skills include critical thinking and analysis. employment law experience, organization, membership outreach, and event planning. I am connected to the local attorney bar, and our court systems.

What is one fun fact that others might be surprised to know about you? It would be obvious to most people who know me well. but I love thrifting and antiquing. Always on the hunt for the next “vintage treasure.”
