Parking Permit in Petition StageOver the past several weeks your neighbors have been out in force collecting signatures for the proposed expansion of the residential permit parking program. It is our goal to have all completed petitions to Michael Finley at the city of Pittsburgh no later than September 30th. Because the process can be a lengthy one, we are asking all petitioners to set the end of September as a drop dead date for the initial petitions. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at the office.

38th Street becomes target forWeed and Seed Task ForceFor months now the area between Penn Avenue and Mintwood Street, including Woolslayer between 37th and 38th Street, has become an escalating problem. As recently as September 4th large gangs of people were involved in an altercation resembling a riot. We will not just give over a geographical section of our community so that people can misbehave and destroy the quality of life of those living near-by. In response to the illegal activity we have enlisted the help of the Calvary Victory Church, the Pittsburgh Police, and we have installed security cameras on the corner of 38th and Woolslayer Way. This problem will not go away until the landlords in that area understand that their tenants are destroying our community. We will invite all landlords in the area to a meeting so that a concerted effort can take place to remove the trouble-makers and to ensure the proper screening of tenants is taking place. UPDATE On October 7th SWAT entered a property located at 298 38th Street and made four arrests. One arrest was gun-related. An order of possession was granted by Judge Zeilmanski on October 29th and an eviction is imminent. We will ask our federal partners to prosecute the crimes under federal guidelines as part of our Weed and Seed program. |

Crime Drops for 5th straight yearWe are proud to report that crime has dropped in our community for the 5th consecutive year. Thanks to the hard work of the police and the persistence of the community criminals are getting the message"Lawrenceville has a zero tolerance for crime" When we first began our efforts back in 2001 our neighborhood resembled a war-zone in some areas, while we are not yet where we would like to be and will never be satisfied and complacent, our numbers are starting to near long-term target points. Your willingness to become a part of the community and do your part by reporting crimes and criminal activity is really paying dividends. Aggressive officers willing to work with the community at solving problems is a big reason why our community is becoming safer every day. We will continue to be relentless in our goal of making Lawrenceville the safest community in the city of Pittsburgh, not so long ago many thought that to be unattainable, now it is within our sights. The numbers along with the results from the neighborhood survey let us know that our work is making a huge difference. Keep reporting criminal activity, let landlords know that we want the proper screening of tenants, and that we will report all illegal activity to 911.
