Bio for Jesse Perkins

Name: Jesse Perkins

What years have you lived in Lawrenceville? 2016-2020

Why did you move to Lawrenceville? I wanted to buy and renovate my first home, and become a part of a vibrant community.

Current Employer/ Job Title: Self Employed General Contractor

Why do you want to be on the LU Board? I want to continue being involved in making the community a better place, both for myself and for those around me.

Please list Community Service, Non-Profit, or Board Experience: Former chair of the Lawrenceville Tree Tenders. Former chair of LU’s Housing Committee. Currently sit on LU’s Housing and Finance Committees. Currently serving as Vice President of LU’s board.

What makes Lawrenceville unique? Why? It’s diverse blue-collar history, it’s proximity to downtown and to the Allegheny River, and it’s walkable business district of primarily local non-chain businesses.

What is was one thing you would like to work on within the neighborhood? Why? Beautification of public green spaces, and planting trees. Everybody benefits when we have access to vibrant green spaces. I also want to continue the work of the Housing Committee as it seeks to ensure everybody has access to safe, affordable housing.

How are you involved in the Lawrenceville community? Aside from board service, I love the friendships I’ve made with neighbors and community members. I love rolling up my sleeves and making a difference with likeminded helpers as much as I love gathering to celebrate!

What would you bring to the LU Board (e.g. experience, skills, perspective, network, etc.)? Two terms as an LU board member, and perspective on housing issues as a self-employed general contractor.

What is one fun fact that others might be surprised to know about you? I’ve only paid for one haircut in my life. After buying clippers, I’ve been cutting my own hair for years. Since social distancing, I’ve cut my hair into a mohawk to amuse myself.
