It’s that time of year!  The leaves are changing color, kids are heading back to school, the Steelers fans are cheering in Heinz Field, and the winds are whistling throughout our city—we’ve reached fall in Pittsburgh.  It is time to plan our annual Lawrenceville holiday parties: Lawrenceville United’s Children’s Halloween Party and Light Up Lawrenceville.  These long-time neighborhood traditions serve hundreds of Lawrenceville children and their families each year.  The Halloween Party will be on October Saturday, October 27th from 5p – 7p at the Boys and Girls Club and Light Up Lawrenceville will be celebrated with the tree lighting on Wednesday, November 28th from 6p – 7p and the children’s party/ cookie mall on Saturday, December 1st from 11a – 2p at the Teamster Temple

Over 300 children attend each event every year and we continue to look for ways to improve and grow these events into opportunities for long-time and new residents to come together and continue to grow and strengthen the Lawrenceville community.   We solicited feedback from participants in the events last year and have made changes to help ensure that more residents and stakeholders are able to enjoy the festivities. For example, this Halloween, we plan to continue the tradition begun last year with our family-friendly trick or treating along the business district of Lawrenceville.  The trick or treating event is when we partner with you to facilitate a trick or treat event for the local children with local businesses, i.e. kids will be able to trick or treat at your business from 4p – 5p thus creating a safe festive atmosphere for residents, stakeholders, and businesses alike.  In addition, we are working to create an even bigger and more exciting haunted house for the children, and will certainly be bringing back a DJ for the monster mash in addition to many more fun activities!

Similarly, we have worked to organize a Light Up Lawrenceville event that compliments some of the other exciting events happening in the neighborhood in honor of the holiday season.  This year, Light Up Lawrenceville and the Joy of Cookies tour will continue to work together to bring something for everyone to our event.  Similar to last year, we will have a great tree lighting ceremony the Wednesday before (11.28.2012) to launch the weekend of festivities for Lawrenceville.  Our traditional Light Up Lawrenceville event will be held with the Cookie Mall on Saturday (12.1.2012).  Santa will be available for pictures and with gifts for each child, and we will have fun activities and games for all families to enjoy.

We would like to thank all of the sponsors who have supported us thus far! Interested in supporting our great family events? Donate TODAY!
